Our Services
Here at Crosstown Psychology, we offer a wide range of specialty services, including professional psychotherapy and psychological testing. This consists of one-on-one individual psychotherapy, couples/marital counseling, anger management, grief counseling, trauma focused care, and family counseling services. We also offer faith-based Christian counseling services at your request. Our goal is to provide services that fit your needs.
In individual therapy, we will work one-on-one to identify the problem and set realistic goals you want to achieve. You will have the opportunity to freely express your thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a safe and non-judgmental space. Processing your experiences can be challenging but I assure you, it will bring about the healing and growth that you desire. Given that everyone has a unique background and history, there is no set timeframe for how long this may take. However, many patients find relief within the first eight weeks of therapy.
Similar to family therapy, communication is key when it comes to any relationship. Whether you are married, living with your partner, or navigating the beginning stages of a new relationship, it’s important to feel safe and comfortable expressing yourself. We will work with you on fostering open and honest communication, learning methods and techniques that can better equip you with tools to allow your relationship to thrive.
Family therapy involves you, your family members, and the therapist, working together to structure an atmosphere where everyone involved feels heard, valued, and understood. Since there is an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence to support the benefits of effective communication within families, we make that a focus of treatment. Family dynamics can be difficult but there is hope for those dynamics to change and improve over time. Depending on your specific family needs, we may also provide support and guidance as we review topics such as codependency, boundaries, life transitions, and fostering independence.
There are varying definitions of faith, but I really like the way Billy Graham describes it. Faith is believing in something unseen and committing your life to it. As a Christian, I believe that faith is at the core of our beings. We were all created for a purpose. Having faith and hope in something greater than ourselves is not only a comforting concept, but a reality that is grounded in truth. Incorporating faith and spirituality into my practice is a very conscious decision and I am honored to work with individuals who are seeking faith based Christian therapy services. We will use biblical teaching, scriptural guidance, and spiritual practices as the groundwork for our therapy sessions.
Grief is one of the hardest things to cope with. We all experience grief in various forms, in some point in our life. Some grief can feel debilitating and numbing, while other forms of grief may show up in ways of overachievement or keep ourselves so busy that we don’t allow ourselves time to process the pain. Regardless of what stage you’re in, we want to meet you where you are in the grieving process and begin to unpack the hurt in a way that leads to healing.
Trauma focused therapy is evidence based and often incorporates cognitive strategies and practical techniques to process your past traumatic experiences. We will take things at a manageable pace to ensure you are not overwhelmed or flooded with anxiety. We will also introduce mindfulness and somatic practices to effectively cope with the feelings that arise when talking about your trauma.
Anger, frustration, and feelings of agitation are are normal emotions that all of us experience from time to time. Anger becomes a problem when it takes over your day to day life. Do you often take your frustration and irritation out on others? Have friends or family members noticed or pointed out a change in your behaviors lately? If this describes you, we are pleased to inform you that there are practical anger management strategies that have been scientifically proven to effectively managing anger, agitation, and aggression. Aggression Replacement therapy (ART) is one treatment that can be helpful in controlling your emotions and can lead to a more peaceful and productive life.
Depression and anxiety are common, but treatable conditions. Many individuals are hesitant to seek help, with the fear that nothing will change. There are effective treatments that can significantly improve your quality of life. Some of the most common types of treatment for depression and anxiety include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), just to name a few. These treatments can help you manage symptoms, challenge negative thought patterns, and develop appropriate coping strategies.
A psychological evaluation uses multiple methods and tests to measure cognitive abilities, personality dimensions, behaviors, and psychological signs and symptoms. Crosstown Psychology currently offers ADD/ADHD psychological testing. A formal psychological evaluation with testing can clarify and confirm diagnoses, enhance understanding about a person’s mental health, and help with planning next steps in treatment. Keep an eye out for additional psychological testing opportunities that will become available in the near future.
